The
curtain
unfolds backstage at the Colonial Theater in Boston in 1959. A new
musical
comedy, "Robbin Hood," is inching toward Broadway. It would move
faster if the leading lady could sing and act. When the untalented
woman is
murdered during her curtain call, Lt. Frank Cioffi arrives to
investigate. He quarantines the theater, confining the director,
producers, writing partners, cast, technicians, and a newspaper
reviewer.
Years ago Cioffi was bitten by the theater bug--his symptoms are
chronic and
there is no cure. Now the gumshoe is about to be shot by Cupid as
he
begins his interrogation of the cast. The process of re-working
the show
begins and Cioffi finds himself as drawn to the success of the
production as he
is to solving the case. Curtains recently finished a
successful
Broadway run.
